Beland Earns MAC Awards; Zips End in Fifth

Danielle Beland was named
MAC Most Outstanding Senior Swimmer and also earned first-team
All-MAC honors on the final day of the MAC Championship meet,
Saturday night at Jones Natatorium. As a team the Zips finished in
fifth place with 381 points.
Beland, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (St. Peters HS),
completed the season unblemished in butterfly events as she won the
200 with an NCAA B consideration time of 2:02.06.
Freshman standout
Kendall Karchner (Maumee,
Ohio/Maumee HS) was honored as a second-team All-MAC selection for
her excellent rookie campaign. She ended the season on a high note
by setting her second individual school record of the weekend with
an NCAA B consideration time of 2:01.03 in the 200-yard backstroke
to finish second overall.
Senior
Melissa Holbach (Palatine,
Ill./Palatine HS) put together her best performance of the season
on the 3-meter board - tallying 270 points to earn a sixth-place
finish.
Freshman
Cathryn Collins (Hilton
Head S.C./Hilton Head HS) clocked in a season-best time of 52.96 in
the 100-yard freestyle.
For the second-straight year Eastern Michigan claimed the MAC crown
with 665 points. Ohio finished second with 618 points and Miami
ended in third with 596. A complete list of results and award
