The Zips finished the season a perfect 13-0 at home, posting the first perfect home record since Akron went 18-0 (17-0 regular season) at home during the 1986-87 season.
Akron extended its home winning streak to 18 games, tying them for the fourth-longest home winning streak in the nation. The only teams ahead of Akron on the national list to play today are Duke (19) and Connecticut (18), with Duke playing at 9 p.m. and UConn playing at 2 p.m.
Akron's 24 first-half points was the second-lowest point total in a half this season. In the game against Kent State on February 4, the Zips scored a season-low 22 points in the second half of a 63-57 loss.
A crowd of 5,651 fans saw the Zips and Golden Flashes face off on Saturday, the 10th-largest crowd in Rhodes Arena history and the largest crowd to see the KSU-UA rivalry game in Akron.
After trailing 33-24 at the half, the Zips opened the second half on an 10-2 run to cut the KSU lead to 35-34 with 16:49 left in regulation. Akron was 4-for-5 from the field during the run, including two 3-point buckets to equal their first-half total from behind the arc.
Rob Preston's two free throws with 11:17 left in the game gave Akron a 46-45 lead. The Zips had not held a lead in the game since the 12:39 mark in the first half (11-10). The lead capped off a 22-12 run to open the second half.
After shooting a dismal 28.1 percent from the floor in
the first half (9-for-32), the Zips exploded in the second half to
shoot 16-for-23 from the field in the second half (69.6 percent).
The Zips' 69.6 percent shooting in the second half was the highest
field goal percentage of any half this year.

Player Notes:
With his jumper with 14:09 left in the first half, Darryl Peterson moved into 13th place on Akron's all-time career scoring list, passing Jim Fenton's (1951-54) mark of 1,319 points. Peterson finished the game with a season-high 22 points, including 12 first-half points to lead all scorers at the break. Peterson finished the game 10-for-14 from the field.
Rob Preston scored seven-straight points (all of his points for the game) in a stretch of 1:36 to give the Zips a 51-45 lead with 9:31 left in the game.
Dru Joyce was held without a field goal in the game, going 0-for-6, but connected on 8-of-9 from the free throw line.
Cedrick Middleton posted 11 points in the game, his third-straight game in double figures in the scoring column.
