Zips End Weekend Road Trip With 150-150 Tie At Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The University of Akron swimming and diving team (5-4-1, 1-4-1 MAC), behind a three-win performance by Danielle Béland (Ottawa, Ontario-St. Peters), posted a 150-150 tie with the Bowling Green Falcons (0-5-1, 0-4-1 MAC) Saturday at the Cooper Pool and Student Recreation Center.
The tie is the second tie for the Zips in as many seasons. Last season, Akron tied Ohio University 150-150 at the Ocasek Natatorium on November 12.
Béland improved her undefeated streak in the butterfly events to 13-0 with a sweep of the the 100 and 200 butterfly events. She won the 100 fly in a time of 57.09 while touching the wall in a time of 2:03.43. She closed out the weekend with a victory in the 400 IM in a season-best time of 4:34.36.
Melissa Young (North Canton, Ohio-West Chester University (Pa.)), Katie Carter (Euclid, Ohio-Euclid HS), Melissa Holbach (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) and Amelia Loge (Westerville, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) each added wins for the Zips.
Young won her third breaststroke event of the weekend, posting a time of 1:06.90 to win the 100 breaststroke. Loge helped complete the sweep of the breaststroke events, winning the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:26.26.
Carter and Holbach swept the diving events for the Zips, with
Carter winning the 1-meter and Holbach winning the 3-meter. Carter
posted a six-dive score of 231.60 in the 1-meter event while
Holbach posted a six-dive total of 283.72 in 3-meter event.

Akron returns to action when it travels to Gambier, Ohio, to face Kenyon on January 27. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m.
