Women's Soccer Gets 3-0 Win Over Ohio

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron defeated Ohio 3-0 Friday in a Mid-American Conference women's soccer match at Lee Jackson Field. The Zips' three-goal tally was a season high.
Akron (5-11-2, 3-7-1 MAC) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard with Jessica Fix (Irwin, Pa/Norwin) scoring the eventual gamewinner at 2:50. It was the first goal of her collegiate career, and came off an assist by Amee Thompson (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington).
UA tacked on insurance goals at 34:49 and at 75:02. The first came courtesy of Jessica Ewing (Waynesville, Ohio/Waynesville), and the second by Abby Holzworth (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted), with an assist from Donna Swift (Hartlepool, England/Malone College. Ewing's score was also the first of her collegiate career.
Akron outshot Ohio (3-14-0, 1-10-0 MAC) 7-3, and won the shot-on-goal margin 5-0. The Zips managed four corner kicks and the Bobcats zero.
UA goalkeepers Krystin Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and Lauren Graff (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) shared the shutout, the fifth of the year for the team. Wilson logged 69:14, while picking up the win, and Graff 20:46.
OU's Katie Overmann played all 90 minutes, making a pair of
saves.

Friday's contest marked the close of the 2005 season for Akron as the Zips did not qualify for the MAC tournament which begins next week.
Friday also served as senior day for four Zips, with Holzworth, Graff, Paige Albright (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) and Amanda Roberts (Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati State Technical College) being honored in a pregame ceremony.
