Women's Soccer Ties Ball State

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron women's soccer team played Ball State to a 2-2 double-overtime tie Sunday in a Mid-American Conference match at Lee Jackson Field.
The day's scoring got underway early, with Ball State (12-3-1, 5-2-1 MAC) finding the net at 4:35. Amy Holst was credited with the score after finishing a pass from Angie Heyer.
Akron (3-10-2, 1-6-1 MAC) countered at 9:37, courtesy of Donna Swift (Hartlepool, England/Malone College), and the Zips took the lead at 37:45 thanks to Amee Thompson (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington). Swift's goal was her first of the season and Thompson's her second of the year.
UA held on to the 2-1 advantage until 58:05 when BSU's Sarah Leibel scored the equalizer.
Ball State outshot Akron, 10-6, including a 6-5 margin in shots on goal. The Cardinals dominated in the corner kick column as well, taking 15 to the Zips two. Thirteen of BSU's attempts from the corner came after the intermission.
Akron goalkeeper Krystin Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) earned her second tie of the year, playing all 110 minutes. Ball State `keeper Alison Becker also went the distance and garnered her first tie of the season.
Akron continues league play next weekend with two away games, traveling to Buffalo Friday (Oct. 21) and to nearby Kent State Sunday (Oct. 23).
