- Class:

1994-98
As the lone freshman on the 10-man UA roster, the 5-8, 145-lb. Greg Boyette didn’t expect to play very much in 1994-95. He, however, did get to play but was disappointed with his 81.1 stroke average over 19 rounds.
In 1995-96, Boyette played in all 12 tournaments and vaulted to a team-leading 75.2 stroke average in 30 rounds. He had four top 10 finished and twice he finished as medalist, shooting his collegiate low round and 36-hole low aggregate of 67-69- 136 at the Xavier Invitational and a 54-hole 22 score at the Cleveland State Invitational. In addition, he fired a one over par 217 to finish third at the Morehead State.
Selected team captain his final two seasons, Boyette’s team-leading stroke average improved to 74.6 over 28 rounds in 1996-97 and he posted six top 10 and nine top 20 finishes. At East Carolina he paced the Zips to a second place finish with rounds of 70-75- 145, he finished fourth at James Madiaon with rounds of 69-71-140 and a 225 earned him fourth at the MAC Championship.
Boyette closed out his outstanding career with his best golf. He helped UA win Louisville’s Persimmon Ridge Intercollegiate with a 144 score and the Northern Illinois Invitational with a 145 score and the Northern Illinois Invitational with a 145 score, as well as a second place at the 37-team Yale Intercollegiate with rounds 70-70-74-214.
However, Greg’s most memorable golf, with family and friends watching, was at the MAC Championship at Quail Hollow, where he finished second and led the Zips to a fourth place, both UA bests in the MAC! He shot four under 284 with birdies on the three of the last four holes to finish his season with an all-time UA record, 72.9 stroke average over 33 rounds, which still stands today.
In addition, he qualified to play in the U.S. Amateur in 1997 and was the medalist in the ’98 qualifying event. Boyette became a professional in 1999 and competed on various mini-tours, earning three victories and 10 runner-up finishes.
