Nine-time letterwinner (three each in football, basketball, and track), Joseph Zemla was a teammate of Mike Krino, Frank Zazula, Dick Miler, Frank Kominic, Carl Tsaloff, Al Abdulla, Bob Bauer, Ernie Kaufman and Bill Sturgeon on Jimmy Aiken coached Akron football varsities in 1963, 1936 and 1937; and Paul Blixer coached Akron basketball in 1935.
One of the best tackles and defensive basketball guards in Akron history, Zemla shared defensive assignments with Tsaloff during his Akron playing days.
