Football/Basketball/Baseball
Backfield; Guard; Infielder-Pitcher
ā35
Another transplant who came to the University and left his mark. Born in Baltimore, Md., āIgsā Florin was all-everything in football and basketball at St. Vincent for Eddie Wentz. Attracted by the city lights of Chicago, āIgsā decided to attend St. Viators College. However, the college folded after one year and he transferred to Akon where he played in the backfield of the two finest teams in the schoolās history. Florin was the extra-point kicker, workhouse fullback and blocking back in the backfield that included Kenneth āRedā Cochrane and Harold āPegā squad compiled a 9-1 record and the Zippers were 7-1 in 1930. āIgsā did most of the work and I got all the glory,ā said Cochrane. Florin also lettered two years in basketball as a guard for Howard āRedā Blair and one year on the baseball team as an infielder and relief pitcher. He passed away in 1963 at the age of 55.
