The Zips goalkeeper, freshman Amani Jiu (Brooklyn, N.Y.), was named the Summa Health Student-Athlete of the Week honor from Akron Athletics.
Additionally, Jiu earned her second nomination as Mid-American Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her performance this past weekend, the league announced on Oct. 24
This is the second time that Jiu has earned the accolade by the Akron athletics and the MAC in her short Akron career.
Jiu was phenomenal in goal for the Zips this past weekend helping Akron to a 1-0-1 record against Miami and Ball State, while she recorded consecutive clean sheets.
In the first contest of the weekend, Jiu earned her third shutout of the year after making one save in a 1-0 win against the Redhawks.
In the following contest against Ball State, Jiu outperformed herself from game one and yet again posted a shutout against the potent Cardinals offense and made seven big saves. This is the second time in her young career that the Akron keeper has recorded back-to-back clean sheets.
