Scott Aligo enters his first season as the Zips’ director of player personnel in 2019.
He comes to Akron after serving in the same capacity at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (2017-18) and John Carroll University (2016).
Aligo joins the Zips staff with more than seven years of NFL player personnel experience, serving as a player personnel assistant the Kansas City Chiefs (2005-09) and a personnel associate the Cleveland Browns (2014-15).
In addition to the NFL, Aligo has coached at nearly every level of college football. He served as a defensive ends coach in Northern Colorado (2014) and a defensive assistant at Texas A&M (2012-14) where he assisted the Aggies in winning both the AT&T Cotton Bowl (2013) and the Chick-fil-A Bowl (2013).
He also spent time as a defensive quality control assistant at Oklahoma State (2011-12), working with cornerbacks and special teams as the Cowboys won both the Big 12 Championship and the Fiesta Bowl in 2012. Finally, Aligo worked as a defensive graduate assistant with the defensive line, serving as the primary defensive backs coach at Washburn (2010-11) and assisted the Ichabods in their Kanza Bowl victory in 2011.
A native of Tonganoxie, Kan., Aligo earned a bachelor’s degree in education and sports management from the University of Kansas (2005) and a master’s degree in recreation, park, and tourism sciences from Texas A&M (2013).
Aligo, 37, is married to the former Sarah Phillips. They have two children, Giuliana and Vincent.
