Freshman (2008): Part of Akron’s 2007 singing class, but did not enroll at Akron until January 2008 and was listed as a true freshman for the 2008 season ... Played in 10 games, missing two due to injury ... Despite playing just 10 games, ranked 10th on the team with 47 tackles ... In addition to his time at linebacker, played significantly on special teams ... Had three tackles at Army, including a sack and two stops at the line of scrimmage ... Continued to shine versus Cincinnati, getting six stops — tied for third-best on the team ... Also had six tackles at Kent State ... Missed the Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan games with an injury ... Returned in fine fashion versus Toledo, getting four tackles, including three solo stops ... Also, scored a TD in the win over the Rockets, recovering a Jalil Carter blocked punt in the endzone as UA took a 14-0 lead to start the contest ... Had nine stops versus Buffalo ... Tied for the team lead with six tackles at Ohio with a half TFL ... One of his stops came on kickoff coverage ... After UA trimmed its deficit to seven versus the Bobcats, on the ensuing kick, Williams forced and recovered a fumble, leading to the Zips’ game-tying TD with two minutes to play ... Ended the season with four stops at Temple.
Prior to Akron: Tabbed second team Class AAAA Associated Press All-State honors ... One of five finalist for the Maxwell Award, which goes to the top football player in Western Pennsylvania … Named to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette “Fabulous 22” team and was named first team all-conference by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette … Selected to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review “Terrific 25” team … Ranked as the 23rd-best weakside linebacker in the nation and the 35th-best overall prospect in Pennsylvania by Scout.com … As a senior, gained 1,189 yards and rushed for 12 touchdowns on 195 carries.
