The University of Akron Athletics
Phases of Return
Based on the NCAA’s Core Principles of Resocialization of College Sport recommendations, student-athletes at the University of Akron will return to campus in three phases.
The core of this plan centers around appropriate social distancing and infection control measures. This will be accomplished by a layering of “pods” (groups) of student-athletes over time to introduce and isolate individuals from the inherent risk during their initial phases on campus. Over time, the size of these pods will evolve working towards a complete integration of each team.
At the same time, additional student-athletes will be layered on to this framework as we establish a safe environment for our entire population of student-athletes. This plan will be tested and strengthened as this layering process occurs. This will all be done with an overlay of screening and isolation of potential infections to mitigate any potential spread to a larger population.
The University of Akron Department of Athletics has developed the following plan based on the NCAA Core Principles of Resocialization of Collegiate Sport documentation. This plan fully complies with CDC, State of Ohio Department of Health, and Summit County Public Health regulations.
Each phase should last 14 days.
Some common elements will not be available until all members of a team or the entire athletics department have gone through all three phases.
