The University of Akron Women's Basketball team has partnered with the Nakon Foundation for our annual breast cancer awareness game presented by Health Markets on Saturday, February 22 as the Zips host Ohio at 1 PM at James A. Rhodes Arena. The Men's Basketball team hosts Miami in game 2 of the doubleheader at 4 PM.
The mission of the event is to raise funds to support those suffering from breast cancer, honor the survivors of all cancers, and educate the community. The Nakon Foundation, will be the beneficiary of this year’s event. All proceeds of the “Nakon for Akron” game will be donated to this local community foundation.The Karen P. Nakon Breast Cancer Foundation was established on February 22, 2003, Karen’s 38th birthday, to honor her graceful and courageous five-year battle against breast cancer. The primary objective of the Nakon Foundation is to help families endure the staggering cost of treatment. The foundation provides services for Northeast Ohio residents who are undergoing treatment and are in need of financial support.

Survivor Family and Friends Ticket Offer
The day will feature a pregame reception open to survivors and their guests. Light refreshments will be provided. The reception will begin at 11:30 AM inside Tommy Evans Lounge in the JAR. Survivors will also receive a special gift, VIP seating, and in-game recognition. There will also be a silent auction and t-shirt sales with proceeds benefiting the Nakon Foundation.
