During 2013-14, the Zips produced five conference
championship-winning programs as men's soccer swept MAC regular
season and tournament titles, women's basketball captured its first
ever league tournament crown, and women's swimming and diving and
men's indoor track and field each chased down team titles at their
MAC Championship meets.
Additionally, rifle secured three team championships with top-team
honors for the smallbore and air rifle divisions in the Western
Intercollegiate Rifle Conference and its third consecutive
smallbore title in the Mid-Atlantic Conference.
On the national level, men's soccer became one of just eight
Division I programs to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the
seventh consecutive season, women's basketball went dancing for the
first time in the 40-year history of its program, and track and
field saw both its women's (10th) and men's (20th) teams finish in
the top 20 of the team standings at the NCAA Outdoor
Championships.
Individually, nine Zips student-athletes were presented 13
All-America honors while 96 received all-conference recognition,
including 50 first team selections. UA excelled in the classroom as
well in 2013-14 as 56 Zips earned academic all-conference honors,
including CoSIDA Academic All-Americans Reinaldo Brenes (third
team) from men's soccer and Rachel Tecca (first team) from women's
basketball.
UA Athletics fields 19 men's and women's varsity teams, comprised
of more than 450 student-athletes. The Zips compete in the Football
Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the NCAA's Division I and are a member of
the Mid-American Conference. The rifle team (coed) competes in the
Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference and Western Intercollegiate Rifle
Conference.
