In addition to the game time announcement, the Mid-American Conference announced on Friday that the East Division showdown between Ohio (10-5, 1-0 MAC) and Akron (10-4, 1-0 MAC) will air live on ESPNU. It was the second time in eight days that the UA men's team had a game added to ESPNU. ESPN also announced on Jan. 3 that the game between Akron and Kent State on Jan. 19 will air on ESPNU at 3 p.m. from the M.A.C. Center in Kent, Ohio.
The Bobcats' visit to the JAR will air on ESPNU for the second-consecutive season as the Zips downed OU 68-63 on Jan. 14, 2012.
The women's team (10-4, 1-0 MAC) will play host to Buffalo (3-11, 1-0 MAC) as part of its annual Play 4Kay event. The Zips will have pink t-shirts on sale for $10, as well as a drawing for a special pink prize basket. All proceeds will be donated to the Kay Yow Foundation. Donations can also be made online at Play4Kay.org/akronzips.
The men's game against OU will serve as Social Media Day. Based on the success of the Akron Football Social Media Day, the Zips will have several promotions and events surrounding the contest with the Bobcats, including the selection of two Akron fans to serve as social media correspondents. More information on these promotions and events will be announced at a later date.
Season ticket holders for both men's and women's basketball will be admitted to the doubleheader. Fans who purchase single-game tickets to the men's game in advance will be admitted to the women's game as well. Tommy Evans Lounge will be open between both games, as well as halftime of the men's game.
Three-, five- and seven-game mini plans are on sale now. By purchasing a mini plan, fans can receive a ticket to both the Ohio and Kent State men's basketball games at a discounted rate. Single-game tickets for the Ohio contest go on sale on Tuesday, Jan. 15.
