THE HOME OPENER FOR THE 60TH SEASON OF ZIPS SOCCER
Hope you're as excited as I am for the first regular-season home games in the 60th year of Akron Men's Soccer! The Zips return to FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field this weekend for the annual University of Akron Tournament. We'll play at 7 p.m. Friday vs. UCF and 2:30 p.m. Sunday (note the time) vs. Hartford. We host a match immediately before ours each day as well, so feel free to come early as your tickets will provide admission to both.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased here – remember, you get the special 60th Anniversary Scarf when you purchase season tickets!
It's an especially important weekend for our program as we welcome back dozens of alumni for the 60th Anniversary dinner. If you'd like to attend and meet so many former Zips, please click here for more details. We also have an Online Auction that is currently live and offers jerseys signed by former Zips (including World Cup breakout star DeAndre Yedlin), unique trips with the team and coaches, and more!
TURN OUR BYE WEEK INTO A BUY WEEK!
After a valiant effort at Penn State, Head Coach Terry Bowden and our Football team have the week off before returning to InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field on Saturday, Sept. 20, to face Marshall. Game time was recently announced as 2 p.m. If you attended our home opener, thank you – now please help by recruiting a friend to attend the Marshall game!
Mini plans are a great way to customize which three of the five remaining home games you'd like to attend, so please support our team as we host a potential Top-25 opponent a week from Saturday.
ZIPS CLIPS (TO WATCH)
Our Communications and New Media areas have been hard at work to create the most desired and entertaining content possible. Please take a few minutes to watch our two new web shows:
- Zips Weekly is our new SportsCenter-type highlight show that recaps the performances of our 19 varsity teams each week.
- Z360 is our weekly feature show that digs a little deeper into who we are and what we do. Week One featured a sneak peak at what goes on during our annual Student-Athlete Welcome Back Picnic, an interview with Dr. Scarborough, and a fun look at Terry Bowden and Zippy personally delivering football season tickets to some of our fans with a special guest in tow.
We also recently launched our Social Media Hub, which pulls together all of our social media content in one place.
RECENTLY RELEASED SCHEDULES
- Both our Men's and Women's Basketball teams released their complete 2014-15 schedules, with most game times to be announced at a later date. However, please circle Friday, Nov. 14, on your calendar as that will be the regular-season doubleheader home opener for both the Women (at 6 p.m.) and the Men (immediately after). We just hit the renewal deadline for season tickets, so make sure you order your seats right away!
- Head Coach Dennis Mitchell announced the 2015 Indoor Track and Field schedule, which features four home meets and begins with the Third-Annual Pole Vault Convention Jan. 9-11.
- Head Coach Brandon Padgett announced the 2014-15 Women's Tennis schedule, which includes our first match on Friday, Sept. 19, at the newly-completed Outdoor Courts, located just south of Exchange Street one block from InfoCision Stadium. At 8:30 a.m. that morning, we will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and UA President Scott Scarborough and senior Olga Shkundina will volley for the honorary first point on the courts.
- Softball will play eight preseason games this fall.
