MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY
Saturday is more than just a typical #ZipsGameday for our Football program, as we'll have the honor of welcoming hundreds of active and former members of the military as our guests for Military Appreciation Day at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field for our 2 p.m. game vs. Miami (Ohio).
For the sixth-consecutive year, The University of Akron has been recognized as a Military Friendly School thanks to the wide range of academic and support services provided to current service members and returning military veterans. it only seems fitting that we welcome them with free tickets (visit our ticket office with military ID), free parking (in Lots 1 or 36 with their military ID) and a pre-game tailgate in Lot 9B at the corner of Spicer and E. Exchange streets.
If you would like to purchase tickets to be donated to military members and their families (or for you to use), please call us at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766), visit the C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office, or click here.
On a personal note, this promotion is particularly meaningful to me because my brother is in the Air Force, and I hope you'll join our family to thank all of the men and women who protect and defend our country. As a way to permanently express our appreciation, after the first quarter we will dedicate a Prisoner of War/Missing In Action Chair of Honor to symbolize the more than 91,000 POW/MIA service members since World War I. Not just on Military Appreciation Day but every day, these men and women will always have a place at our events, on our campus and in our memory.
As you likely know, our Football team is coming off of a 31-6 victory last week vs. Eastern Michigan in the Mid-American Conference opener, during which we debuted our new alternate black uniforms with chrome helmets as a tribute to former Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Line Coach Alan "Tank" Arrington.
OTHER UPCOMING EVENTS
After the Football game Saturday, make the short walk to James A. Rhodes Arena for Volleyball, who hosts Toledo for their annual Alumni Day game starting at 5 p.m.

When you walk by the JAR these days, you'll hear more basketballs bouncing as both our Men's and Women's programs officially started practice within the last week. Please keep Friday, Nov. 14, open to come to the JAR for a doubleheader to start the season – if you don't yet have season tickets, now is the time to buy as we expect to break the sales records we have established the last two years.
