GET YOUR BLACK ON TODAY …
… for our #ZipsBlackout, at 8 p.m. as Football looks to take a major step toward winning the MAC East in a game vs. Bowling Green that will determine who sits atop the standings with just three games remaining after tonight.
We want everyone wearing black, and the first 5,000 fans at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field will receive a free long-sleeve black t-shirt.
The best thing we’re giving away tonight, though, will be free Spring 2015 tuition to four current UA students – three of whom will win simply for attending the game (and staying) and one who will be anointed the champion of our Social Media Challenge. Please visit this page, GoZips.com/Blackout, for links to the official rules.
Also, the College Football Playoff National Championship Trophy will be making an appearance tonight at InfoCision Stadium. Fans will have the chance to take your photograph with the trophy at Zips Fest on Vine Street before the game.
BUT THAT’S NOT ALL TODAY (OR THIS TIME OF YEAR) …
If you can come to campus early enough, join us in Tommy Evans Lounge in Rhodes Arena at 4 p.m. for Basketball Media Day, presented by Wentz Financial Group. This annual event features interactive interviews with student-athletes from our men’s and women’s teams, as well as Head Coaches Keith Dambrot and Jodi Kest.
This event is open for Z-Fund donors and season ticketholders to attend and ask questions, and anyone else can participate by tweeting a question for Coaches Dambrot and Kest in advance to @AkronZips. We'll have a live web stream available, and Basketball Media Day also will be carried live on Sports Radio 1350 AM (WARF), as well as the iHeart Radio and TuneIn apps. Our Men's team was picked as the preseason favorite in the East, and the Women were selected to finish third.
Remember that our Women’s Basketball team has its exhibition game at the JAR at noon Saturday vs Ursluline, and our Men do the same at 7 p.m. Monday against Rochester (Mich.).
At 5:30 p.m. at Zips Fest on Vine Street, you can find Zippy's Second Annual Great Chili Cook Off, an event that University Dining Services and Athletics are co-hosting once again as part of UA's fundraising campaign for United Way of Summit County. Tickets to the Cook Off will be sold at the tent, and there's a discounted rate for UA students with a valid Zip Card, as well as for those

AND FINALLY …
We often refer to Zips Athletics as a family, and once again that was evident by the number of student-athletes, coaches, staff members and fans who attended the wake and/or funeral for Dan Peters. ‘Pete’ was beloved by many and it showed from the massive crowds who came to say goodbye, console his family and celebrate his life. His family shared with me that they were touched by how many Zips made a point of paying their respects, which have continued online with the hashtag #4PetesSake.
