MEN’S SOCCER: MAC CHAMPIONS!
Congratulations to Head Coach Jared Embick and our Men’s Soccer team for winning yet another MAC Championship, courtesy of two thrilling come-from-behind 2-1 victories, against Western Michigan in the semifinals Friday and versus Bowling Green in the championship Sunday.
We learned this afternoon that we’re heading to Ohio State for the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday (time TBA tomorrow). As we do every year, we submitted a bid for a home game and feel that we had a resume deserving of at least one, but we’ll hit the road in our quest for a #2ndStar (and a second victory in Columbus this season – we won 3-1 on Sept. 24).
As you know, it’s an easy drive to OSU, and we hope you can join us – tickets are just $8 for adults and $5 for students and children, and will be available at the entrance to Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. With a win, we advance to play Sunday at No. 1 seed Notre Dame in the second round. Here’s the complete tournament bracket, as well as Coach Embick’s first comments on our draw.
HOPE TO SEE YOU TUESDAY …
… both early and late, as Women’s Basketball plays at 10:30 am in our second-annual Education Day. We’re expecting more than 800 fifth-graders to pack Rhodes Arena and root for the Zips, who are 2-0 after winning the inaugural Akron Classic this weekend. Make it an early lunch, especially if you’re on campus, as it’s UA Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day.
At 7 p.m. (please note the time change), Football kicks off against UMass in our final home game of 2014 at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field. We will honor our 26-member senior class immediately before the game.
DIGITAL GUIDE NOW AVAILABLE
For the first time, we have produced a Basketball Digital Guide, which includes video features and previews of the Men’s and Women’s seasons. We hope you enjoy this new feature, and that you share it with others via social media.

ONE FINAL THOUGHT
We are aware of media attention to an incident currently under police investigation involving two of our student-athletes. Please note that this is a difficult time for both of our basketball teams, the student-athletes and the coaches. We have confidence in the University disciplinary process, and while the investigation is ongoing, we have asked our student-athletes and coaches to avoid speaking about it. We have also urged the media to respect the privacy of all of our student-athletes.
