MEN'S SOCCER OPENS HOME SCHEDULE
Our seventh-ranked Men's Soccer program opens its home schedule by playing host to the annual
Akron Tournament this weekend at FirstEnergy Stadium –
Cub Cadet Field. We start the weekend by facing No. 19 Virginia
Commonwealth on Friday at 7 p.m. VCU is coached by Dave Giffard, a
former UA assistant under Caleb Porter and good friend of our
current head coach Jared Embick.
We also will take on San Diego State on Sunday at 1 p.m. (please
note the time change, which happened after we printed our season
tickets and marketing materials). Our team will sign autographs
after Sunday’s game.
Also, our game against Bowling Green has been moved to Saturday,
Sept. 21 at 1 p.m., after originally being scheduled for the day
before. Tickets listing different dates or start times for those
matches will be accepted at the new dates and times.
And while we’re touching on schedule changes, please also
remember that unless otherwise noted, home games will start this
year at 7 p.m.
Tickets for these matches – including a limited number of
reserved season tickets, as well as a 5-game mini-plan – are
available by clicking here or calling our ticket office at
1-888-99-AKRON (25766).
FOOTBALL TRAVELS TO THE "BIG HOUSE"
Football heads to Ann Arbor, Mich., on Friday and will face the
No. 11 Michigan Wolverines at historic Michigan Stadium on Saturday
at noon. The game will be televised by the Big Ten Network. You can
click here if you need help locating the BTN channel
in your area or on your cable provider.
I'm excited about the opportunity our student-athletes have to
compete in environments like this one, and look forward to seeing
all the Zips fans who are making the trip.
Our Z-Fund sold out its fan bus trip for this game, which will
provide two bus loads of Zips faithful. If you have reserved your
spot for the trip, please be reminded that the buses will leave
campus at 6:30 a.m. You can park and meet the bus in Lot 9, located
behind the scoreboard of InfoCision Stadium off of Exchange Street.
The buses will return to campus immediately following the game.
If you are unable to make the drive to Ann Arbor, you can watch
the game with other Zips fans at Johnny J's Pub and Grille in the
Valley, the official Watch Party Headquarters of Zips Athletics.
Drink specials will be available.
MEN'S GOLF WINS GOLFWEEK PROGRAM CHALLENGE
I am happy to report that Men's Golf claimed a come-from-behind victory in the Golfweek Program
Challenge earlier this week. It is the 27th tournament win in
program history and the first for third-year head coach David
Trainor.
Down seven strokes entering the final round, the team posted a
3-under 285 to take the event. Sophomore Carr Vernon helped the
squad climb up the leaderboard with a career-low round of 4-under
68 to finish tied for third place.
Our team will host the annual Firestone Invitational at Firestone
Country Club on Oct. 7 and 8.
VARSITY "A" ASSOCIATION MONOGRAM DAY AND CLAM
BAKE
Our Varsity "A" Association is planning a Monogram Day and Clam
Bake in conjunction with our Oct. 5 Football game versus Ohio
(kickoff at 2 p.m.) and Men's Soccer match against Hartwick
(kickoff at 7 p.m.). The event will be held between those two home
games. Final details are yet to be set, but we want everyone to
save this date on their calendar.
To RSVP or get additional information, contact Alexa Doutt with
our Z-Fund at (330) 972-2695 or by e-mail.
