WELCOME BACK FOR HOMECOMING
This is one of my favorite weeks of the academic year, when we
welcome back to campus University alumni for Homecoming.
There are numerous festivities planned, many of which are built
around our Football and Men's Soccer doubleheader on Saturday.
Football takes on Ohio at 2 p.m. at InfoCision Stadium –
Summa Field and Men's Soccer, which moved
up one spot to No. 9 in this week's NSCAA Coaches Poll, faces
off against Hartwick at 7 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub
Cadet Field.
Tickets for all home events are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling
our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766).
Saturday will also feature the annual UA 5K at 8 a.m., which
finishes inside the football stadium, and Faculty & Staff Picnic in Coleman Common from
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Also, don't forget about the Football team's
arrival at noon for ROO Walk and Zips Fest, both located along Vine
Street between the football stadium and Stile Athletics Field
House. Zips Fest opens at 11:45 a.m.
Our Varsity "A" Association has planned a Monogram Day and Clam Bake as well that will
be held at 5 p.m. (or immediately following the football game)
inside the field house. If you are interested in attending, RSVP to
Alexa Doutt with our Z-Fund at (330) 972-2695 or by e-mail.
Additionally, Swimming and Diving will have its Alumni Meet on
Saturday at 10 a.m., inside Ocasek Natatorium.
MEN'S BASKETBALL SEASON TICKET SALES HIT RECORD
NUMBER
We were happy to
announce earlier today that the amount of season tickets sold for
the upcoming Men's Basketball season has already surpassed last
year's number. This means we now have the largest season ticket
base in program history!
You can help add to this record-breaking sales number by visiting
ZipsTickets.com or
calling our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766). While an
extremely limited number of lower level seats remain available,
there are several additional season ticket packages to choose
from.
The Men have an exhibition game at home against Bluffton on Nov. 1
and the first regular-season matchup is at home versus Coastal
Carolina on Nov. 8, which will be a doubleheader with the Women
facing Florida Atlantic that day as well.
Nov. 8 will be a celebration for both programs, as the Men will be
honored for their Mid-American Conference regular-season and
tournament titles, and the Women for their MAC East Division
championship. We will have celebratory giveaways for fans that day
– mini banners commemorating the Women's championship and
replica rings recognizing the Men's titles.
WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYS HOST TO AKRON INVITE
Our women's tennis team plays host to the Akron Invitational on Friday through
Sunday indoors at LaTuchie Tennis Center in nearby Stow (driving
directions). This is the first time since 2005 the team has
held a fall tournament.
Competition starts each day at 9 a.m., and admission is free. Click here for a complete schedule of play for the
weekend. We take on Cornell, Ohio State and West Virginia, schools,
that like us, boast competitive and consistently ranked women's
tennis programs.
Our team was MAC Tournament champion in 2011 and 2012, and
competed in the NCAA Tournament each of the last three seasons.
