HOMECOMING WEEKEND REVIEW
It was nice to welcome back to campus so many former
student-athletes and alums last weekend for Homecoming! Despite a
rainy day, there was a festive pregame atmosphere around Zips Fest
and on Coleman Common for the annual Faculty & Staff Picnic
before Saturday's Football game against Ohio.
I also enjoyed visiting with a number of former student-athletes
and many other friends of the University at the Varsity "A"
Association's Clam Bake in the Stile Athletics Field House after
the Football game and before the Men's Soccer match against
Hartwick.
We are fortunate to have so many great supporters of Zips
Athletics!
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TAKES ALL-OHIO CHAMPIONSHIP
With plenty of activity on campus last weekend for Homecoming, the
big highlight came off campus as Men's Cross Country captured the title at the All-Ohio Championships in
Cedarville. With four runners finishing in the top 20, the program
won the event for the second time in its history and first time
since 1963. The annual meet featured competitors from 41 Ohio
schools.
Our Women's team posted an impressive finish as well, coming in
ninth out of 42 teams.
Both teams will be in Terre Haute, Ind., for the Pre-National meet
on Oct. 19, their last competition prior to the MAC Championships
on Nov. 2, which will determine two points in the PNC Wagon Wheel
Challenge versus Kent State.
"SOCCER MOM APPRECIATION NIGHT" and
"SOCTOBERFEST"
Women's Soccer returns home to FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub
Cadet Field on Friday at 7 p.m. to take on Ohio University.
It will be "Soccer Mom Appreciation Night," with one lucky mom
having the opportunity to win $20,000, the approximate cost of a
mini van, if she is able to kick five balls into the net from
various locations around the goal. It will also be "Cleveland
Internationals Soccer Club Night."
Men's Soccer, which is ranked No. 20 nationally, faces No. 15 Wake
Forest at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m., for what will be
"Soctoberfest." We will have a pregame tent with German food and a
cash bar. The team is coming off a
2-1 victory last night at Cleveland State, thanks to two goals
by freshman Adam Najem.
Tickets for all home events are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling
our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766).
HOOPS MEDIA DAY
Our men's and women's basketball teams will hold their annual Media

event will be video streamed on GoZips.com and broadcast locally on
SportsRadio1350.com and nationally on iHeartRadio. Details about where to watch the video
stream will be posted on GoZips.com at a later date.
Fans are able to participate in the event by submitting a
question for our coaches and student-athletes by tweeting it
to @FollowTheRoo.
The men's team has an exhibition against Bluffton on Friday, Nov.
1 and opens the season at home against Coastal Carolina on Friday,
Nov. 8. The women have an exhibition on Saturday, Nov. 2 against
Lake Erie and open the season on Nov. 8 at home as well against
Florida Atlantic.
