THE WAGON WHEEL RECLAIMED
Thanks to everyone who was at InfoCision Stadium – Summa
Field last Saturday to cheer Football onto a victory over our rival Kent State in the Battle for the
Wagon Wheel and help us celebrate Jim
Dennison Day.
For the first time since 2009, the coveted wooden Wagon Wheel is
back in its rightful home hanging on the wall of the Football
locker room inside Stile Athletics Field House. Congrats to Coach
Bowden, his staff and student-athletes for a job well done!
Before the game, over 200 former coaches and players gathered on
the stadium's club level to honor Jim Dennison, our winningest
Football coach. We enjoyed reliving the program's national
runner-up finish in the 1976 NCAA Division II playoffs and other
memories from his 13 seasons at UA. Mayor Don Plusquellic declared
it Jim Dennison Day in the City of Akron with a proclamation prior
to kickoff.
We also announced the Jim and
Sue Dennison Scholarship in Football, which will go to a
student-athlete leader in Football who displays Positive Mental
Attitude (PMA) and trademark Dennison toughness.
Be sure to watch the video
recap and view the photo
gallery of Jim Dennison Day.
MEN'S SOCCER TAKES ON PENN STATE IN MARQUEE
MATCHUP
Men's Soccer, ranked No. 9 nationally and unbeaten in its last six
matches, faces No. 11 Penn State tonight at 7 at
FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field in this year's final
regular-season home match. PSU is the Big Ten regular-season
champion and the result of the match will impact the resume of both
top 20 teams, so we need you in the stands supporting us.
Tickets are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling our ticket office at
1-888-99-AKRON (25766).
We close out the regular season on Saturday at Western Michigan in
a match that could help decide if we have earned the right to host
the MAC Tournament on our campus on Nov. 15 and 17.
Invoices for postseason tickets were mailed to season
ticketholders this week.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ACHIEVES BEST-EVER FINISH AT MAC
MEET
Men's Cross Country posted
its best-ever finish at the MAC Championships last Saturday in
Bowling Green, Ohio, placing second behind defending champ Eastern
Michigan. Senior Brad Hough paced the team with a 10th-place time.
He was one of five of our runners to finish in the top 18.
Our Women's team came in eighth, led by junior Kayla Whitlow's
23rd-place finish.
Placing higher than Kent State in both races, earned us two
valuable points in the PNC Wagon
Wheel Challenge, which we now lead 3-2.
BASKETBALL DOUBLEHEADER FRIDAY
Both Men's and Women's Basketball, each named preseason favorites
to win their division, started their seasons with exhibition
victories last weekend and open the regular season at home with a
doubleheader on Friday at James A. Rhodes Arena. The Women face
Florida Atlantic at 5:30 p.m., and the Men tip off against Coastal
Carolina at 8 p.m.
Both games will be video streamed and broadcast locally on SportsRadio1350.com (1350 AM) and nationally on iHeartRadio.
Throughout the evening, the Men will be honored for their MAC
regular-season and tournament titles, and the Women for their MAC
East Division championship. We will have celebratory giveaways for
fans that day – mini banners commemorating the Women's
championship and replica rings recognizing the Men's titles.
Also, we want you to be aware of a new security policy at home
games. Starting on Friday, fans will have bags they bring into the
arena checked as they come through the turnstiles. We do the same
before Football games at InfoCision Stadium and feel it is an
important step in ensuring our venues are safe.
Season and single-game tickets as well as mini plans are available
on ZipsTickets.com or
by calling our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766).
