SOFTBALL RETURNS HOME TO MAC TOURNAMENT
Congratulations to Head Coach Julie Jones and our Softball team for earning the No. 3 seed in the MAC Tournament, held today through Saturday at Firestone Stadium here in Akron. The Zips will take the field with the MAC's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
Our first game in the double-elimination event is now at 8 p.m. tonight against No. 6 Central Michigan (the start time was pushed back 30 minutes because of weather this morning).
Here are the official tournament bracket and directions to Firestone Stadium, located just 10 minutes from campus. The team is fired up to return to postseason play and I encourage everyone to cheer them on in person. Go Zips!
NEXT FOOTBALL SEASON TICKETHOLDER WINNER ANNOUNCED
Congratulations to Chuck Bell, a new season ticketholder in 2014, who won a trip for himself and his guest to our Football game at Heinz Field against the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday, Sept. 27. Chuck signed up for Zips Football season tickets by our May 2 deadline to become eligible for that prize.
We are drawing a winner to join us on each of our six road games in 2014. Our next drawing will be on June 2 for a trip for two to our game at Buffalo on Nov. 11. All you have to do is purchase at least two football season tickets (can be either new or renewed seats) by 5 p.m. ET today! Here are the deadlines to be eligible for the rest of the trips – please join our team as a ticketholder so you have the chance to join our team on a trip!
CATCH TRACK AND FIELD AT HOME
We host our final home outdoor meet of the year on Friday and Saturday, as the Campbell/Wright Invitational will be held at Lee. R. Jackson Track & Field Complex. Events will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday. This is a great opportunity to watch some of our most talented student-athletes compete.
We will be honoring our 15 outdoor track and field senior student-athletes throughout the weekend. Join us as we congratulate Daryl Baptiste, Ariane Beaumont-Courteau, Alex Bowers, Miles Coats, Bryan Dowdell, Zach Goulet, Heath Harris, Jake Hiltner, Brad Hough, Bryan Jones, Jakob Leon, Shawn Light, Darien Spann, Emily Suciu and Morgan Willis for all their hard work and dedication to Zips Athletics.
We're coming off a huge weekend at the Longhorn Invitational, as our Women and Men each defeated Top-25 programs such as Baylor and Kentucky in finishing second to host Texas.
Annika Roloff smashed her own school record in the women's pole vault while defeating the reigning NCAA Indoor Champion in the process. Skyler Willis also broke her own school record in the 400-meters hurdles and was our top-finisher in the 100-meter hurdles. Individual titles were captured by Alexis Cooks in the women's discus, Brittany Funk in the women's hammer throw, Bryce Lemon in the men's javelin, Martel Durant in the men's high jump and Weronika Gaudyn in the women's triple jump. De'Vion Tate was the top collegiate finisher in the men's long jump. Head Coach Dennis Mitchell and his staff once again have us ready as we near the MAC Outdoor Championship on May 15-17 in Athens, Ohio.
FORE!
Please join us for Football's Annual Summer Jamboree Golf Outing on Friday, June 6, at The Quarry Golf Club in Canton, one of the nicest courses in northeast Ohio. To sign up for this year's event, contact former Zip football student-athlete Mickelos Blake, now a graduate assistant for Athletics Development, at 330-972-7142 or mbl25@zips.uakron.edu.

FINALS WEEK
Campus is a little quieter this week as we are in the midst of Final Exams for the spring semester. We wish our student-athletes – and all UA students – the best as they close out the semester strong!
As we typically do when the school year closes, we will send these e-mails less frequently until the fall semester starts. We'll be sure to check in a few times the rest of this spring and throughout the summer. Enjoy the weather and hope to see you on campus soon!
