THE CREW COMES TO THE HOME OF THE ZIPS
We all know that FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field
offers as energizing and engaging of a soccer venue as any in the
country – and with our recent announcement, more of the
soccer world will take notice, too.
It is our privilege to host the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match featuring the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer and the Indy Eleven of the North American Soccer League on Tuesday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
As a benefit to our soccer season ticketholders who renewed or are new for the 2014 season, there is an exclusive 24-hour pre-sale window that started at 10 a.m. ET today and runs through 10 a.m. ET tomorrow (Wednesday) to purchase tickets. After 10 a.m. ET tomorrow, all tickets will go on sale to the general public via this link.
Season ticketholders already should have received an e-mail with the exclusive offer – if you are one and didn’t receive our e-mail yesterday, please call our ticket office at 888-99-25766 (AKRON). Please note that calls only should be made by season ticketholders in order to provide an updated e-mail address to receive the exclusive pre-sale offer, as all advanced purchases will be done either online or in person at our ticket office.
We are thrilled to host the Crew and at the same time spotlight
our fantastic facility and programs, and offer our fans the
opportunity to see another team that plays an attractive style. It
surely says a lot about Akron Soccer, and to our knowledge we will
become just the second school ever to host a U.S. Open Cup contest
on campus.
ELITE EIGHT OFF TO EUGENE
The only student-athletes still competing for the Zips in the 2013-14 academic year are among the best we have, and they have an opportunity to showcase their talents on the national stage.
Thanks to their performance last weekend at the NCAA East
Preliminary, a
program-best eight Zips from Track and Field will travel to
historic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon for the 2014
NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 11-14. Congratulations
to our own “Elite Eight”: Shawn Barber (Pole Vault),
Alexis Cooks (Hammer Throw, Discus), Brittany Funk (Hammer Throw),
Caroline Hasse (Pole Vault), Bryan Jones (Decathlon), Claire Lucas
(Pole Vault), Alex McCune (Decathlon) and Annika Roloff (Pole

NEXT FOOTBALL SEASON TICKETHOLDER WINNER
ANNOUNCED!
Congratulations to football season ticketholder Leonard Best, who has been with us since 2012 and was chosen as the winner of a trip for two with our team to our game at Buffalo on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Leonard and so many of our fans have renewed their season tickets, and I hope all of you know how thankful we are for your commitment to Zips Football and how much it means to Coach Bowden and our team that you support our program as we continue to seek another MAC Championship.
Our next trip will be for the Oct. 18 game at Ohio for those who purchase or renew by July 3. And everyone who already has purchased is re-entered, so the earlier you are in our system, the more chances you have to win.
Our renewal deadline for season tickets for both Football and Men’s and Women’s Soccer was Monday – if you have not yet renewed, please call our ticket office ASAP at 888-99-25766 (AKRON)! We also just e-mailed basketball season ticketholders to begin that renewal process … even though it’s almost summer, it’s a busy time in the Chima Athletics Ticket Office.
Another ticketed sport with news to note is Volleyball, for which we announced last week our 2014 schedule with 13 home matches at Rhodes Arena, including a non-conference tournament on Friday, Sept. 5 and Saturday, Sept. 6, as well as a Saturday night showdown vs. Kent State on Nov. 8 in our final regular-season home match. Head Coach Ron Arenz will be entering his seventh season, and you can support the program by purchasing season tickets or family four-packs.
While we’re talking tickets, one more important package is
our new all alumni all-sports package: regardless when you
graduated or with what degree, you can get season tickets to all
six sports for which we offer them (A reserved seat for Football
and General Admission tickets for Men’s and Women’s
Soccer, Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball) for
just $175! Please visit this link
or call us to take advantage of this new opportunity.
