MEN'S SOCCER SENDS FIVE MORE TO THE
PROS
Over the last week, Men's Soccer added five names to the list of Zips
competing in Major League Soccer. Former players Reinaldo
Brenes (Sporting Kansas
City), Robbie Derschang (Philadelphia Union), Aodhan Quinn
(Philadelphia Union) and
Eric Stevenson (New York Red
Bulls) were selected in the league's SuperDraft that
concluded on Tuesday, while Bryan Gallego signed a Homegrown
Contract with the Portland Timbers last week.
How’s this for an amazing stat: at least one Zip plays
for 12 of the 19 MLS clubs! Since 2007, our Men’s Soccer
program has developed 25 players for professional teams in MLS or
overseas.
Join us in wishing the newest members of that group all the best
as they pursue their professional careers!
THURSDAY NIGHT HOOPS AT JAR
Women's Basketball takes on Ohio University at James A. Rhodes
Arena on Thursday at 7 p.m., in an important Mid-American
Conference East Division matchup. This is the only home basketball
game this week for either our Men's or Women's team and we look
forward to having you in the stands for it. Tickets are available
on ZipsTickets.com or
by calling our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766).
The game will be video streamed, broadcast locally on SportsRadio1350.com (1350 AM) and nationally on iHeartRadio.
Head Coach Jodi Kest's team comes off a
decisive 77-51 win Saturday over our rival Kent State, earning
us another half point in the PNC Wagon
Wheel Challenge standings to increase our lead over the Flashes
to a score of 3.5 to 2.0. Remember, the first school to eight
points wins, and our next opportunity to widen our lead comes on
Feb. 1, when the Men's team plays at Kent State, with another half
point on the line.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ZIPS TRIP
There is still room available on the Women's Basketball Z-Fund fan
bus trip to Eastern Michigan on Sunday. Since that game starts at 2
p.m., the bus will leave campus at 10:15 a.m. and immediately
following the game will stop at the Hollywood Casino in Toledo. You
can reserve your spot by paying $35, which includes travel and a
game ticket. RSVP to Micklos Blake with the Z-Fund at (330)
972-7142 or by e-mail.
While we love to have you in the stands for every home
game, it means a great deal to our coaches and student-athletes
when they are greeted by a friendly cheering section for an away
game.
The fan bus trip to watch the Men's double-overtime
victory at Ohio earlier this month sold out.
MEN'S BASKETBALL MAKES TWO-GAME ROAD SWING
Men's Basketball hits the road for two games this week,
at Eastern Michigan tonight at 7 and Central Michigan
on Saturday, also at 7 p.m. Both games will be broadcast locally on
SportsRadio1350.com (1350 AM) and nationally on iHeartRadio. Additionally, Wednesday's game at EMU
will be televised by Time Warner Cable Sports Channel and ESPN3.
The team returns to Rhodes Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 29 to
face Ball State at 7 p.m. Tickets are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling
our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766).

win over Big 12 Conference opponent West Virginia as well as
against Dayton, Robert Morris and Wright State.
The team competes at Cleveland State on Saturday at 6 p.m., and
has a three-match homestand the following weekend at LaTuchie
Tennis Center in Stow. On Friday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m., we take on

FOOTBALL NATIONAL SIGNING DAY
Be sure to mark Wednesday, Feb. 5 on your calendar for National
Signing Day, one of the busiest and exciting days of the year for a
college football program. Our official Zips Athletics social
media accounts as well as GoZips.com will provide coverage throughout the
day as each prospect inks their National Letter of Intent. The day
will conclude with a 5:30 p.m. press conference that will be
streamed live on GoZips.com.
The press conference, held on the Towpath Credit Union Press Level
(7th floor) of InfoCision Stadium, is open to the public. If you

CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR ALAN
ARRINGTON
We would love for you to join us on Thursday at 5 p.m. on the
fifth floor of InfoCision Stadium for a Memorial and Celebration of Life for Football Assistant
Head Coach Alan "Tank" Arrington, who passed away in December
following an automobile accident in Mississippi.
This will provide an opportunity for those student-athletes,
department staff and those within the Akron community who were
unable to attend his funeral in Mississippi last month to have an
opportunity to remember him and pay their respects.
Tank was one of the most outgoing and enthusiastic people I have
ever known, and that will be the theme of next week's tribute.
Please join us if you can.
