SIGNING DAY RECAP
Wednesday was National Signing Day and Football announced the addition of 13 student-athletes to
the program. The group of new Zips includes five from Ohio,
three of which are from Akron area high schools and who chose to
come to UA after receiving significant interest from other programs
around the country – a good testament to the hard work of
Coach Terry Bowden and his staff to build relationships with local
high schools.
Those who attended Coach Bowden's open-to-the-public press
conference on Wednesday heard how excited he is about this incoming
class as well as the future and direction of the program. Click here
to watch an archive of that event, including video highlights of
the signees.
Wednesday also was National Signing Day for soccer, and our Women's team announced its new class as well. Our
men's team will do so at a later date.
We look forward to getting these new additions on campus and
having the opportunity to watch them compete and complete their
degrees.
FOOTBALL SEASON TICKETS ON SALE
In conjunction with Wednesday's National Signing Day, Football season tickets and renewals went on sale that day
at 10 a.m. Once again we are not increasing ticket prices while
offering a variety of all-inclusive packages that include free
parking, concessions vouchers, seat cushions, tailgate flags and
more. The team comes off its best season since 2008 and we are
excited to provide our fans with added value both on and off the
field this year!
Renewal invoices for current ticket holders are available at ZipsTickets.com, with a deadline of June 2 to
be eligible for additional prizes and secure your same seat
locations. In a continued effort to "go green," hardcopy renewal
invoices will be mailed at a later date, and only to those who have
not yet renewed electronically. We had over 40 accounts renew their
seats on Wednesday.
Our home schedule at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field
features six games. In non-conference play we take on Howard on
Thursday, Aug. 28 and Marshall on Saturday, Sept. 20. Our
Mid-American Conference home games are against defending league
champion Bowling Green as well as Eastern Michigan, Massachusetts
and Miami (Ohio). We won't know dates and times for the conference
games until a later date.
We look forward to seeing you at games on campus in the Fall.
Please contact our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766) if you
have questions.
AKRON INVITATIONAL WEEKEND
Track and Field hosts its largest home meet of the year today and
Saturday at Stile Athletics Field House. More than 500 athletes
from 17 schools will be on campus to participate in the 10th annual Akron Invitational. Be sure to watch the
latest episode of Zips Track and Field with Head Coach Dennis
Mitchell for a preview of the weekend and review of recent
competition.
Tickets are $6 and can be purchased at the doors, which will open
to the public at 2 p.m. today and 8 a.m. Saturday. The showcase of
the meet will be Saturday's Gold Invitational that runs from 3 p.m.
to 6 p.m.
A number of our student-athletes are listed among the top 10 in
the national rankings, including pole vaulters Shawn Barber (No. 2)
and Alex McCune (No. 9), weight thrower Brittany Funk (No. 3) and
5,000 meters runner Kyle Cochrun (No. 7).
You can also follow this weekend's competition via live results and a video stream.
WOMEN'S HOOPS PLAY 4 KAY
You might have noticed that we turned GoZips.com the color pink.
That is because Saturday's Women's Basketball matchup versus
Western Michigan at 2 p.m. at James. A. Rhodes Arena will be our
annual game in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. In honor of
former NC State coach Kay Yow, who passed away from breast cancer
in 2009, the team will wear pink uniforms and there will be several
giveaways and promotions related to cancer awareness and
research.
This is also Alumni Weekend on campus for the Women's team which
has won six-straight games, including a 71-67 comeback win at Northern Illinois on
Wednesday.
Saturday's game will be video streamed, and broadcast locally on SportsRadio1350.com (1350 AM) and nationally on iHeartRadio.
Tickets are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling our ticket office at
1-888-99-AKRON (25766).
