HALL OF FAME WEEKEND
On
Friday night, we will induct the 39th Class into our Varsity "A"
Association Sports Hall of Fame during a banquet at the
University's Quaker Station. The nine-person group includes UA
President Dr. Luis Proenza, who will be awarded the Kenneth "Red"
Cochrane Meritorious Service Award.
The Class also includes Rick Holman (football),
Jeff Lake (football), Kelli Metzger (softball), Kyle Milligan
(soccer), William Terrell (track) and Mary (Varga) Stupczy
(track). Our beloved mascot Zippy also will be awarded the
Cochrane Meritorious Service Award and Lawrence Dessart will
be given the Mike Krino Varsity "A" Achievement Award.
The
festivities begin at 6 p.m. with refreshments and socializing,
followed by a sit-down dinner at 7 p.m. and the induction program
at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased
for $40 per person and $20 for children age 13 and under. Tables of
eight can be reserved for $300. A cash bar will be
available.
For more information or to buy a ticket, please contact Alexa Doutt
with our Z-Fund, at (330) 972-2695 or via e-mail.
The Class also
will be presented at halftime of Saturday's Men's Basketball game
against Bowling Green at James A. Rhodes Arena, which tips off at 7
p.m.
CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK
Track and Field, Swimming and Diving, and Rifle will compete in
their respective conference championships this week and we wish
them the best of luck!
The Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field
Championships will be contested at nearby Kent State on Friday
and Saturday. The MAC Swimming and Diving Championships run from
Thursday to Saturday at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Rifle
participates in the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championship,
hosted by the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss., on
Saturday.
Team scoring in the track and field championships will impact the
standings between us and Kent State in the PNC Wagon Wheel
Challenge, which we currently lead 3.5-2.5.
MID-WEEK WOMEN'S HOOPS AT RHODES ARENA
Head Coach Jodi Kest and our Women's Basketball team compete at James A. Rhodes Arena tonight at 7 versus Miami
(Ohio), for what is our second-to-last regular-season home
game. The first 200 fans to come through the turnstiles will
receive a free drawstring backpack.
Our Women won at Ohio University 88-76 on Saturday to
extend their program-record winning streak to 10 games. That also
was the team's fifth-straight road win, which ties the school
record. And, if that's not enough to get you excited, the team also
features the top scoring duo in the nation, with seniors Rachel
Tecca and Hanna Luburgh combining to average 46 points per game! If
you haven't seen it yet, please
watch this entertaining video highlighting Rachel and
Hanna.
Tickets are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling our ticket office at
1-888-99-AKRON (25766). If you are unable to make it to JAR, you
can always watch our video stream.
The team plays at Kent State on Sunday at 2 p.m., with a
half point up for grabs in the PNC Wagon Wheel
Challenge versus the Flashes. We
beat KSU 77-51 in this season's first meeting.
Be sure to watch the latest episode of Zips
Women's Basketball with Head Coach Jodi Kest for a preview of
these upcoming games.
MEN'S BASKETBALL HOMESTAND
Men's Basketball plays at Miami (Ohio) tonight at 7, before closing out
the regular-season with a three-game homestand that begins versus
Bowling Green on Saturday at 7 p.m. That will be UA Faculty and
Staff Appreciation Night, featuring a ticket price of just $10 that
includes a catered pregame buffet. You can RSVP here.
Additionally on Saturday, we will give away the fourth installment
of our player trading cards and have a postgame autograph session
with select players.
The Men are tied for second place in the league's East Division
and, with four games remaining, are one of a handful of teams
battling for the four quarterfinal round byes to the MAC
Tournament, which will be held at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown
Cleveland the second week of March. With that on the line, we need
to make sure we create a formidable homecourt advantage during
these upcoming games.
Tickets are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling our ticket office at
1-888-99-AKRON (25766). Don't forget about our mini-plan, which includes a free Zips jersey
plus a pricing discount on tickets for each of our three remaining
home games vs. BG (March 1), Buffalo (March 4) and Kent State
(March 7).
All games are broadcast locally on SportsRadio1350.com (1350 AM) and nationally on iHeartRadio.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MAC TOURNAMENT
TICKETS
As you make plans to attend the MAC Men's and Women's Basketball
Tournaments at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland next month, we
encourage you to order seats through our ticket office. You
can do so by using this order form or by calling 1-888-99-AKRON
(25766). The deadline is Friday, March 7 to get prioritized
seating. You will be charged only for games in which we compete and
then per round as we advance.
Please remember that the MAC requires each school to purchase a
block of tickets for each round, so any unsold tickets are a cost
we need to absorb. Plus, this way you are guaranteed to sit among
other Zips fans!
PRESIDENT PROENZA BOBBLEHEAD GIVEAWAY
We will honor University President Luis Proenza by giving
away 2,000 limited-edition bobbleheads of his likeness at
our Men's Basketball game against Buffalo on Tuesday, March 4.
Season ticket holders will receive one voucher per account in the
mail prior to the game to redeem for one bobblehead. The remaining
bobbleheads will be given away that night via instant win
scratch-off cards.
Proenza will complete his presidency at the end of June
following more than 15 years of service at UA.
MEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULING UPDATE
A reminder that Men's Basketball's final regular-season game against Kent
State at James A. Rhodes Arena will be televised by ESPN2 and be
played on Friday, March 7 at 7 p.m. This will be the
fifth-straight year we have faced the Flashes on national
television for the regular-season finale.
The winner of the game will also earn one half point in
the PNC
Wagon Wheel Challenge standings.
We look forward to having you in the stands that night as
we face off against our rival. Tickets are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling
our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766).
FOOTBALL SEASON TICKETS ON SALE
A reminder that Football season tickets and renewals went on sale on
Wednesday, Feb. 5. Once again we are not increasing ticket
prices while offering a variety of all-inclusive packages that
include free parking, concessions vouchers, seat cushions, tailgate
flags and more.
Renewal invoices for current ticket holders are available at ZipsTickets.com, with a deadline of June 2 to
be eligible for additional prizes and to secure your same seat
locations. Hardcopy renewal invoices will be mailed at a later
date, and only to those who have not yet renewed
electronically.
We kick off the season at home on Thursday, Aug. 28 against Howard
and also play host to Marshall on Saturday, Sept. 20 in
non-conference play. Our MAC home games are against defending
league champion Bowling Green as well as Eastern Michigan,
Massachusetts and Miami (Ohio). We anticipate announcing dates and
times for conference games very soon.
We look forward to seeing you at games on campus in the Fall.
Please contact our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766) if you
have questions.
