SATURDAY NIGHT MEN'S HOOPS AT JAR
We look forward to having you in the stands at James A. Rhodes
Arena tomorrow when Men's Basketball takes on Ohio University at 6
p.m. Please note the special tip-off time due to the game being
televised on Time Warner Cable Sports Channel and ESPN3.
We are anticipating a near-capacity crowd as OU has become one of
our biggest league rivals, thanks largely to us facing one another
in the Mid-American Conference Tournament championship game each of
the last two seasons.
If you can't make it to JAR, the game also will be video streamed, and broadcast locally on SportsRadio1350.com (1350 AM) and nationally on iHeartRadio.
Our Men are tied for first place in the league's East Division and
play four of our final five regular-season games at home.
Tickets are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling our ticket office at
1-888-99-AKRON (25766). Don't forget about our mini-plan, which provides a great way to get a
seat for upcoming games against Bowling Green (March 1) and Buffalo
(March 4), and either Ohio or Kent State (March 7).
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ACHIEVES PROGRAM-RECORD WIN
STREAK
Congrats to Head Coach Jodi Kest and our Women's Basketball team,
which won a program-best ninth-straight game on Wednesday when we
topped Northern Illinois, 89-75. The win was also
their 11th at home this year, tying the school record for most in a
season.
The team visits Ohio University tomorrow at 2 p.m., and you can
follow that contest on SportsRadio1350.com (1350 AM) and nationally on iHeartRadio.
Our Women play three of the last five regular-season games on the
road, but are at home on Wednesday, Feb. 26 versus Miami (Ohio) at
7 p.m., and close the season at James A. Rhodes Arena on Saturday,
March 8 against Bowling Green at 2 p.m.
Tickets are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling our ticket office at
1-888-99-AKRON (25766).
TECCA NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA FIRST TEAM
Women's Basketball's awarding-winning season hit another
milestone Thursday, when senior Rachel Tecca was named to the Capital One Academic All-America first
team. She is the first player in program history to be selected
to the first team (she was named to the second team last
season).
Rachel, who maintains a 3.89 GPA and is working on her MBA,
completed a bachelor's degree in marketing in December. She also is
the program's all-time leading scorer and rebounder, and is
scheduled to make her 100th career start Saturday at Ohio.
DAN PETERS AWARDED USBWA'S MOST COURAGEOUS AWARD
Men's Basketball Director of Basketball Operations Dan
Peters, who is undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer, was
announced as the United States Basketball Writers
Association’s (USBWA) Most Courageous Award honoree
Thursday.
As part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness
weekend in January, the coaching staffs of 26 programs across the
country – including Arizona, Indiana, Cincinnati, West
Virginia and Akron, among others – wore lapel pins with the
phrase "4 Pete's
Sake" on them to show their support for Dan. His story of
support throughout the coaching community, through national
articles, social media and special events, has helped raise
awareness about this disease.
A 30-plus year veteran of the collegiate coaching scene, Peters
joined the Akron staff in 2009 after time at Ohio State (2004-09)
and Cincinnati (1999-2004) as an assistant coach, as well as the
head coaching spot at Youngstown State (1993-99).
PRESIDENT PROENZA BOBBLEHEAD GIVEAWAY
We will honor University President Luis Proenza by giving
away 2,000 limited-edition bobbleheads of his likeness at
our Men's Basketball game against Buffalo on Tuesday, March 4.
Season ticket holders will receive one voucher per account in the
mail prior to the game to redeem for one bobblehead. The remaining
bobbleheads will be given away that night via instant win
scratch-off cards.
Proenza, who will complete his presidency at the end of June
following more than 15 years of service at UA, will be honored
with the Kenneth "Red" Cochrane Meritorious Service Award at
our 39th Annual Varsity "A" Association Sports Hall of Fame banquet
on Friday, Feb. 28.
FOOTBALL SEASON TICKETS ON SALE
A reminder that Football season tickets and renewals went on sale on
Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Once again we are not increasing ticket prices while offering a
variety of all-inclusive packages that include free parking,
concessions vouchers, seat cushions, tailgate flags and more. The
team is coming off its best season since 2008, and we are excited
to provide our fans with added value both on and off the field this
year!
Renewal invoices for current ticket holders are available at ZipsTickets.com, with a deadline of June 2 to
be eligible for additional prizes and to secure your same seat
locations. In a continued effort to "go green," hardcopy renewal
invoices will be mailed at a later date, and only to those who have
not yet renewed electronically.
Our home schedule at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field
features six games. In non-conference play we take on Howard on
Thursday, Aug. 28 and Marshall on Saturday, Sept. 20. Our
Mid-American Conference home games are against defending league
champion Bowling Green as well as Eastern Michigan, Massachusetts
and Miami (Ohio). We won't know dates and times for the conference
games until a later date.
We look forward to seeing you at games on campus in the Fall.
Please contact our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766) if you
have questions.

MEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULING UPDATE
On Tuesday, we learned that Men's Basketball's final regular-season game against Kent
State at James A. Rhodes Arena will be televised by ESPN2 and be
played on Friday, March 7 at 7 p.m. This will be the
fifth-straight year we have faced the Flashes on national
television for the regular-season finale.
The winner of the game will also earn one half point in
the PNC
Wagon Wheel Challenge standings, which we currently lead
3.5-2.5.
We look forward to having you in the stands that night as
we face off against our rival. Tickets are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling
our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766).
