SATURDAY HOOPS MATINEE
After limited home games thus far this season and some recent
time off from competition, Men's and Women's Basketball return to
action locally on Saturday. The Women host George Mason at James A.
Rhodes Arena at 2 p.m., and the Men compete at the same time versus
Cleveland State at Wolstein Center in downtown Cleveland. We'd love
to see you at one of those venues!
Tickets for the women's game are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling
our ticket office at 1-888-99-AKRON (25766). Click here to buy tickets for the Men's game
at CSU.
Both games will be video streamed (Women | Men).
The Men's game also will be broadcast locally on SportsRadio1350.com (1350 AM) and nationally on iHeartRadio.
We will see more of both teams at home in the coming weeks. After
Saturday, the Men have a three-game homestand on Dec. 14, 16 and 18
against Bethune-Cookman, Oral Roberts and Detroit, respectively.
Counting Saturday, the Women play three of their four games this
month at home, facing Rochester College on Dec. 20 and Youngstown
State on Dec. 29 following a road trip to Cincinnati on Dec.
17.
BASKETBALL HOLIDAY MINI PLAN

State (March 7 or 8) game along with a ticket to two additional
games of your choice. You’ll also receive a Zips replica
basketball jersey while supplies last.
Tickets are available on ZipsTickets.com or by calling our ticket office at
1-888-99-AKRON (25766). Season and single-game tickets as well as
additional mini plans also are available.
FOOTBALL ON A ROLL
Football closed out the season by winning three-straight and four
of its last five games, and we very much appreciate all the fans
who came out to watch the 31-29 season finale victory over Toledo last Friday at
InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field. What a great way to send
out our senior class and build momentum for offseason conditioning
and recruiting!
We finished the year 5-7 overall and went 4-4 in Mid-American
Conference games, our best record since 2008. The NCAA ranked our
regular-season schedule as the 37th toughest nationally and second hardest in
the league, behind Toledo (34th).
Last Friday, we announced that we will open the 2014 season at home against Howard on Thursday,
Aug. 28 and like many of you, I can't wait.
ZIPPY INVITATIONAL
This weekend we hold our largest swimming and diving meet of the
year, the Zippy Invitational, at Ocasek Natatorium.
The event begins today at 9 a.m., as do Saturday's prelim races.
Tonight and Saturday the finals start at 6. Sunday's morning prelim
session will also begin at 9, with the meet's last session set for
Sunday at 4 p.m. Diving events will be held in the afternoon today
and Saturday in between the swimming sessions.
We're providing a live video stream and results for free throughout the weekend.
PADGETT SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH WOMEN'S
TENNIS
We announced earlier this week that Women's Tennis head coach
Brandon Padgett had agreed to a two-year contract extension through May
2016. Now in his fourth season at UA, he has guided the team to
three of its most successful and exciting seasons.
He led the program to MAC Tournament championships and NCAA
Tournament appearances in 2011 and 2012 – the first two in
its history. In 2013, one of our doubles teams was selected to
compete in the NCAA Tournament.
The program has also excelled off the court under Brandon's
leadership as five Zips were chosen as Academic All-MAC over the
last three seasons, and the program earned the ITA's All-Academic
Team Award twice in that time.
