BASKETBALL SEASON TICKETS ON SALE
We announced our Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball schedules last week, which feature a great slate of home games for both teams. In addition to the MAC opponents, the Men will also host Cleveland State, Middle Tennessee State and Princeton among others, and the Women will bring Cincinnati, Dayton and Wright State to the Rhodes Arena.
Now that we have schedules, we need your support with season tickets – please renew or purchase new seats today. Our goal is to set a ticket sales record and sell all reserved seating in the JAR through season tickets and mini plans. We have a lot of options at a lot of price points, so there is something for everyone who wants to cheer on our defending MAC Champion Men’s Team and our fast-paced Women’s Team.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY WINS TOMMY EVANS INVITATIONAL
Congratulations to our Women’s Cross Country team for its victory yesterday at Firestone Metro Park in the 44th Tommy Evans Invitational, our lone home meet of the year. Sophomore Maria Moore led the way with the individual victory, and was one of five Zips in the top 12.
Our men finished third as a team, led by junior Kyle Wheeler’s fifth-place showing.
TRENDING NATIONALLY ON TWITTER
I am proud of how hard our Football team played last Thursday night in its season opener vs. Central Florida, and I have heard from many of you who share the belief that Coach Bowden has our program moving in the right direction.
I am also proud of how many of you joined our Social Media Night by tweeting with our hashtag, #ZipsGameday. To show you the power of Zips Nation, think about this: there were times Thursday night when that hash tag was trending nationally on Twitter! This means that we were one of the top eight hashtags used and seen by Twitter accounts logged in from the United States – to give this more context, on that evening the top topic trending most frequently was the Republican National Convention.
COMPLIANCE AND SOCIAL MEDIA
At the same time I thank you for participating in our Social Media Night, this is also a good time to remind you of what we can and cannot do through social media regarding recruiting. As we continue to push our social media presence as an Athletics Department, we also recognize that recruits use these sites as well. Please remember that donors, boosters, supporters and friends of The University of Akron are not allowed to write on the wall of, tweet to, '@reply,' or otherwise contact a prospective student-athlete to attempt to recruit him or her to become a Zip. Please leave the recruiting to our coaches!
HIT ‘EM STRAIGHT!
Best of luck to both golf teams as they both begin play this weekend.
Our Men’s Golf team tees off its season Sunday at The invitational at Kiawah, played on The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
Our Women’s Golf team also begins play for the academic year, travelling to the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Illinois on Saturday and Sunday.
