BASKETBALL MEDIA DAY
Hope you were able to enjoy our annual Basketball Media Day on Wednesday, whether you attended in person or tracked the event online. Our social media activity and web stream resulted in hundreds of followers, and our live radio coverage – new this year – was well-received based on feedback we heard. Thanks to @iMelissaPow and @tffffny for serving as our social media correspondents.
Here’s the video of the Men’s and Women’s press conferences if you missed the comments from Head Coaches Keith Dambrot, Jodi Kest and members of their teams. I’m really proud of how they represented Zips Athletics, and look forward to watching them compete against someone other than themselves starting next week. If you haven’t bought your season tickets yet, please click here or call 888-99-AKRON (25766) to do so now!
COACHES VS. CANCER BREAKFAST
One last reminder: The first Northeast Ohio Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Breakfast will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at the Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls. Coach Dambrot will be one of the featured speakers and will not only preview the season but share why this cause is so near and dear to his heart. The four schools hosting this event – Akron, Kent State, Cleveland State and Youngstown State – have a collective goal of raising $50,000 for the American Cancer Society. Please sign up here!
CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES FOR MAC TITLE
Our Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships tomorrow in Buffalo, N.Y. Here’s a video preview from Head Coaches Scott Jones (women) and Lee LaBadie (men). In addition to conference titles being on the line, so are points for the PNC Wagon Wheel Challenge … good luck, Zips!
VOTE FOR SCOTT!
Senior midfielder Scott Caldwell has a slim lead in the Senior CLASS Award over the other nine finalists … please log in and vote for someone who embodies CLASS: Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. You can vote once per day through Nov. 19.
Scott also was named MAC Player of the Week on Tuesday. A two-year team captain, the accounting major carries a 3.937 cumulative GPA and is always eager to volunteer in the community.
