IT’S A #ZipsGameday!
Men’s Soccer (@ZipsMSOC) starts its regular season at 7:30 p.m. tonight vs. Florida Gulf Coast at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field. We’re expecting a large crowd from both season ticketholders and students, so come early and be loud! If you don’t have your tickets yet, they are available here, including the only reserved seats remaining in the entire stadium – in a couple of sections of the west bleachers.
New Student Convocation is being held right outside the field on Coleman Common starting at 5 p.m. After these students are officially welcomed to campus, they will have the opportunity to become AK-Rowdies immediately by joining the “March to the Match”, meeting the team on Vine Street at 6:15 p.m. and walking with them from their locker room to the field. Thank you to all of the departments that worked with us to put together this schedule of events to create a truly unique Akron Experience for these new students during their first “official” day on campus.
All the information you need about this, and every other home, Men’s Soccer match is available on our Gameday Central web page. Speaking of, #ZipsGameday is our designated Twitter hashtag that we want everyone to use to promote any Zips Athletics event, so tweet us before and during the games. And, finally, to watch Head Coach Caleb Porter discuss his 2012 squad, click here for this extensive interview previewing the season.
Finally, as a reminder, because FirstEnergy Stadium now has permanent restrooms (underneath the south bleachers) and a full concessions stand (on the east end by gate 1, as well as a tent on the west end), re-entry is no longer permitted at that facility.
SIX DAYS UNTIL BOWDEN BALL KICKS OFF!
Campus has come alive again with students moving in this week and all the preparations for classes on Monday, and with that has brought added excitement from everyone at the University for the start of our football season and Terry Bowden’s first game as our head coach. I am so proud of our student-athletes for how they have approached the transition to our new coaching staff over the last eight months, and I know how excited they are to line up at 7 p.m. on Thursday (Aug. 30) vs. Central Florida at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field.
If you haven’t yet bought tickets, what are you waiting for? We have season packages starting at just $75, as well as all-inclusive options that include parking, food vouchers and Team Shop discounts for just $120. All of us want a winning team at The University of Akron, but for us to fully realize our potential as a football program and Athletics department, we need the support of everyone – students, faculty and staff, alumni, fans of the Zips and friends of the University. Plus, when Coach Bowden turns our program around, you’ll be able to say you were there from the start! Hear his comments here.
ROAD TRIPS
The Z-Fund has organized two trips to upcoming games that we would love for you to attend with us:
The first is an all-inclusive trip to our football game at Tennessee on Sept. 22. Click here for more details on this great package, which includes round-trip coach bus, lunch on the way, two nights in a hotel (Friday, Sept. 21, and Saturday, Sept. 22), a game-day tailgate and a ticket to the Zips-Volunteers game at legendary Neyland Stadium. We need to finalize our numbers by Sept. 7, so please click that link and
The other travel package, with the assistance of Chima Travel, is to San Juan in November to watch our Men’s Basketball team compete in three games at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. We return a talented team that won last year’s MAC Regular Season Championship, and the field for this tournament is very competitive. Click here to sign up for this trip!
