Mary Delich, Volleyball
Volleyball senior Mary Delich was named the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 29.
Delich was a key component of Akron’s offense over the weekend, helping the Zips to a 1-1 record to open MAC play. The senior averaged 3.57 kills per set and hit .362 over the course of the two matches against Miami (Ohio) and Bowling Green.
In four sets against Miami, Delich posted 11 kills with only two errors in 21 attempts to hit .429, and added six total blocks.
In a shutout over BGSU – Akron’s first victory over the Falcons since 2010 – Delich tied her career-high mark with 14 kills for a .308 attack percentage, guiding UA to its highest hitting percentage so far this season. Her 14 kills were the most for a Zip in a three-set match this year.
Delich has hit .300 or better in her last three outings.
