Shawn Barber, Men's Track and Field
Men’s Track and Field junior Shawn Barber was named the
Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week on Jan. 12.
Barber set a new Stile Athletics Field House record jump of 19-0.25
(5.80m) to claim the title at the Akron Pole Vault Convention on
Saturday, Jan. 10.
With his efforts, Barber owns the top-two jumps in the world in
2015 after surpassing 19-3 (5.87m) Jan. 3 at the Texas Expo Vault
in Belton, Texas.
Barber bested Sam Kendricks (Nike), the 2013 and 2014 NCAA Outdoor
Champion, by clearing the winning height on his first attempt.
Barber then attempted to set a new collegiate record as the bar was
set at 19-4.25. He narrowly missed clearing the height on his
second run at the bar.
Both Barber and Kendricks surpassed the previous Stile Athletics
Field House record of 18-6.5 set by Barber on Feb. 8, 2014.
