Second-Half Rally Propels Toledo Past Akron, 75-54

TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Akron women's basketball team went into halftime tied 27-27 with Toledo, but could not take control in the second half and fell 75-54 to the Rockets on the road on Saturday (Feb. 15).
The Zips had three players score in double figures, led by freshman Ni'Rah Clark (Toledo, Ohio), who had a career-high 16 points. Senior Zakia Rasheed (Avon, Ind.) added 11 points and senior Alexus Mobley (Indianapolis, Ind.) chipped in as well with 10 points from the bench.
Junior Liisa Taponen (Tampere, FInland) pulled down three offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second-chance opportunities for Akron, grabbing 13 boards and turning them into 11 second-chance points.
How It Happened
Akron started out the scoring by going on a 6-0 run, culminating in a bucket from redshirt senior Shelbee Brown (Memphis, Tenn.), to take an early lead with 6:05 left in the first quarter. The Zips entered the quarter break with a 16-12 advantage.
Toledo rallied to take a 21-18 lead before Akron went on a 5-0 run starting at the 5:43 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Mobley, to take a 23-21 advantage. The Rockets then battled back to even it up at 27-27 heading into halftime. Akron dominated in the paint, scoring six of its 11 points close to the basket.
Toledo proceeded to take over in the third quarter and the Zips entered the fourth trailing 55-45.
Akron could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 75-54. Akron took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its nine points in the paint.
