Zips Fall to Toledo on Saturday

AKRON, Ohio - Alexus Mobley scored 23 points while Zakia Rasheed and Shelbee Brown added 11 each, but the Zips fell to the Toledo Rockets 74-54 at home Saturday.
Mobley led the Zips (7-7, 1-1) with 23 points and five steals. Rasheed added 11 points off the bench and Shelbee Brown chipped in as well with 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Akron defense forced 14 Toledo turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 10 points on the other end of the floor. Mobley's five steals led the way individually for the Zips.
How It Happened
After falling behind 10-6, Akron went on a 5-0 run with 6:14 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Rasheed, to take an 11-10 lead. The Zips then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 21-19.
The Zips continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 43-31 halftime deficit.
Akron's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Zips faced a 58-37 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Akron played well near the basket, scoring four of its six points in the paint.
Toledo kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 71-44 advantage before Akron went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Emily Hall's layup, to shrink the deficit to 71-52 with 43 seconds to go in the contest. Toledo responded and outscored the Zips the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 74-54. Akron took advantage of six Toledo turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
