Zips Fall to Ohio

AKRON, Ohio -The Akron volleyball team fell in five sets (21-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-21, 6-15) to the Ohio Bobcats Saturday at home at James A. Rhodes Arena.
Lauren Baker finished with 13 kills on the day to lead the Zips attack while Gabby Brissett and Emanouela Christodoulou each had nine. Defensively, Akron had two players reach double figures in digs as Vanessa Del Real had 13 and Eliska Vytiskova had 10. From the front row, Karleighana Jones contributed six blocks. Vytiskova had a double-double with 25 assists to go along with her 10 digs.
The loss dropped Akron's record to 5-9 overall and 1-1 in MAC action.

» Del Real had a match-high three aces in the loss.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips lost set one 25-21 in spite of a strong performance on the attacking side. Akron put together a .310 attack percentage with 12 kills in the set loss.
SET 2 | Akron lost set two 25-18, digging a 2-0 hole in the match. Akron trailed by as many as seven points as Ohio grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that was tied up three times before the Bobcats took over the lead.
SET 3 | Akron rallied back to pull within two sets to one, winning their first set of the match in the third stanza. The Zips took control of the set early when the score was 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-20. Akron led by as many as seven points at 20-13 before finishing off the stanza. The Akron offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Akron then kept the comeback train rolling, winning the fourth set 25-21 to bring the match level at two sets apiece. The Zips took the lead for good at 17-16 in a set that had just one lead change before the Zips took over in the second half of the stanza. Akron also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.
SET 5 | Akron fell behind two sets to none, but rallied to even it at two sets apiece before falling 15-6 in the fifth set. The Zips trailed by as many as nine points before dropping the fifth set.

Akron travels to Northern Illinois for a pair of conference games from October 3-4.
