MAC Championships: Akron Ranks Sixth After Day 1

Grove City, Ohio – Akron golf has three players rankled in the Top 25 as the Zips carded a 316 (+28) opening round score of the 2024 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships at Pinnacle Club on Sunday.
Leading the Zips' scoring efforts through the initial 18-holes was sophomore Avery Wright (Jackson, Ohio) with a 3-over par 75 score at the par 72, 6,201-yard course. Wright tallied 12 pars and a pair of birdies en route to a seventh-place finish after day one.
Junior Daphne van Son (Vlijmen, Netherlands) followed in the Top 25, ranking 13th overall on the players leaderboard with a 5-over par 77 performance. She collected nine par scores and three birdies.
Rounding out the Top 25 for Akron was senior Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio). Hahn fired a 79 (+7) and finished 23rd overall with nine pars and one birdie.
Senior Abbi Fleiner (Reno, Nev.) and sophomore Hridhika Vora (Mumbai, Maharashtra) completed the Zips scoring with 85 (+13) and 90 (+18) scores, respectively.
Akron sits sixth in the team scoring with a 316 (+28) ledger as Kent State leads the way with a 296 (+8) first round effort, followed by Toledo (+17, 305), Northern Illinois (+22, 310), Central Michigan (+27, 315) and Bowling Green (+27, 315). The Flashes' Veronika Kedronova and Leon Takagi posted a pair of field-low 1-under par 71 scores to lead the tournament.
Akron is set to start the second round of the 2024 MAC Championships from hole No. 1 at 11:10 a.m. with Vora leading the way followed by Fleiner (11:20 a.m.), Hahn (11:30 a.m.), van Son (11:40 a.m.) and Wright (11:50 a.m.).
