Swimming Finishes 2nd, Peresie Named Coach of the Year at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships

OCALA, Fla. – After three days of competition, the Akron swimmers finished in second place at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships with a total score of 588.5 points. Coach Brian Peresie was named the CSCAA National Invitational Championship Coach of the Year.
The final session began with the 1000 freestyle, where Astrid Halvorsen took 16th at 10:10.43.
Rebecca Reid set a new CSCAA National Invitational Championship meet record with a time of 54.56 in the 100 IM. Rachel Sabotin and Giovanna Cappabianca also made the finals in the 100 IM. Sabotin swam a 55.31 for 7th place while Cappabianca took 17th at 57.48.
Aislinn Holder took third place in the 100 freestyle at 49.47 and Hannah Trainer (50.12) and Kaja Reinhardt (50.54) placed 9th and 15th respectively. Sara Bozso took fourth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:13.26 and Madeline Dyer finished right behind her at 2:13.55. Cappabianca finished in 18th at 2:16.55. Sabotin finished the individual events with a bronze medal performance in the 200 butterfly when she touched the wall at 1:58.93.
Callie Parkes (50.98), Holder (48.99), Trainer (49.28), and Halvorsen (49.59) finished the competition with a bronze medal in the 400 freestyle relay.
Akron took silver in the team rankings with 588.5 behind Texas Christian University with 619 points and ahead of third place University of Kentucky with 552 points.
