Akron Falls 88-66 to Toledo

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron women's basketball team got four double-digit scoring performances, but fell 88-66 to Toledo at James A. Rhodes Arena on Wednesday (Jan. 31).
The Zips were led by a team-high 15-point and eight-rebound effort from junior Reagan Bass (Strongsville, Ohio). Junior Zakia Rasheed (Avon, Ind.) tacked on a career-high 12 points, while junior Kaia Woods (Tiffin, Ohio) and sophomore Lanae Riley (Akron, Ohio) helped out with 11 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench.
The Akron defense caused its share of mistakes in Wednesday's game, forcing 13 Toledo turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 14 points on the offensive end of the floor. Freshman Teniesha Clarke (Burlington, Ontario) led the way individually for the Zips with one steal and a pair of assists. Freshman Olivia Brown (Fishers, Ind.) matched a career-high with two assists.
How It Happened
Akron struggled out of the gate, falling behind 22-12 at the end of the first quarter and faced a 42-25 halftime deficit.
After intermission, Akron cut its deficit to 48-33 before going on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 48-38 with 6:09 to go in the third. Toledo countered and stretched its lead to 63-46 heading into the fourth. Akron knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 21 total points.
Akron could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 88-66. Akron took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 20 points in the paint.
