Pikunas Fires Even Par Opening Round to Lead Zips at Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate

Pawley's Island, S.C. – Senior Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) opened the 2023 Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate by carding an even-par 71 at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club to lead the Akron women's golf team scoring on Monday.

Pikunas started the round on hole No. 10 at the 6,003, par-71 course and posted a 2-over par score on the first nine holes. She recorded five par scores and a birdie to go along with three bogeys. On the final nine (holes 1-9), Pikunas registered a pair of birdies with seven par scores to bring her scorecard to even after 18 holes of play. She currently ranks sixth on the player leaderboard.

Akron is currently in a five-way tie for eighth place in the 17-team field as the Zips tallied a 302 (+18) first round score. Junior Abbi Fleiner (Reno, Nev.) follows in scoring for Akron, posting a 3-over 74 first round score, while freshman Avery Wright (Jackson, Ohio) and sophomore Daphne van Son (Vlijmen, Netherlands) recorded 78 (+7) and 79 (+8) scores, respectively. Junior Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio) rounded out the Zips' scoring with an 80 (+9) tally.

Akron is scheduled to be back in action at the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate on Tuesday, March 28 with tee times from hole No. 10, starting with Hahn at 7:55 a.m. followed by van Son (8:04), Wright (8:13), Fleiner (8:22) and Pikunas (8:31). Fans can follow the action via GolfStat Live Scoring.
