Bass Scores 33 Points in Akron's 55-49 Win Against Tennessee State

AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron junior Reagan Bass (Strongsville, Ohio) collected a career-best 33 points to help lead the Zips past Tennessee State, 55-49, at James A. Rhodes Arena on Sunday (Dec. 3).
Bass notched a double-double with 33 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Zips (3-3). Junior Alexus Mobley (Indianapolis, Ind.) added four points and two steals, while redshirt senior Morgan Haney (Piqua, Ohio) helped out with a six-point and seven-rebound performance.
Led by Bass' six offensive rebounds, Akron did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 16 boards that resulted in 15 second-chance points.
Akron forced 18 Tennessee State turnovers and turned those takeaways into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Bass' three steals led the way for Akron.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 3-2 lead, Akron went on a 6-0 run with 8:01 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Bass, to increase its lead to 9-2. The Zips added five points to that advantage by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 14-6 margin. Akron relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 14 points.
The Zips maintained their lead in the game's second stanza and entered halftime with a 27-21 edge. Akron forced three Tennessee State turnovers in the period and turned them into five points.
With the game tied at 34 at the 4:29 mark of the third quarter, the Zips went on a 7-0 run to grab a 41-34 lead. Akron entered the fourth quarter with a 41-38 edge. The Zips played well near the basket, scoring eight of their 14 points in the paint.
The Tigers proceeded to tie things up at 45-45 at the 7:16 mark of the fourth quarter before Akron went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Bass' layup, to seize a 53-45 lead with 2:25 to go in the contest. The Tigers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Zips finished off a 55-49 win. Akron took advantage of four Tennessee State turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off of those takeaways.
