Bass Registers 1,000th Career Point in Akron's 88-65 Victory Against Bellarmine

AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron junior Reagan Bass (Strongsville, Ohio) notched her 1,000th career point on the strength of a 22-point and 10-rebound performance to help the Zips edge Bellarmine, 88-65, on Thursday at James A. Rhodes Arena.
With her layup at the 9:38 mark of the second quarter, Bass became the 21st member of the 1,000-point club for Akron women's basketball.
Junior Kaia Woods (Tiffin, Ohio) added a career-high 15 points, while redshirt senior Morgan Haney (Piqua, Ohio) posted 15 points, including five three pointers.
Akron connected on a season-high 14 three pointers in the game, the third-best single-game effort in program history.
Bass pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second-chance opportunities for Akron, grabbing 19 boards and turning them into 20 second-chance points.
The Akron defense forced 19 Bellarmine turnovers and turned those miscues into 15 points on the offensive end of the floor.
How It Happened
After falling behind 9-5, Akron went on a 7-0 run with 4:34 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Bass, to take a 12-9 lead. The Zips entered the quarter break with a 17-13 advantage.
Akron kept its first quarter lead intact before going on an 8-0 run starting at the 7:42 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Woods, to increase its lead to 27-15. The Zips enjoyed a 39-26 advantage heading into halftime. Akron was strong from deep in the period, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of its 22 points in the period.
Following intermission, Akron continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 54-35 before going on a 10-0 run to expand its lead further to 64-35 with 2:39 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Knights had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Zips still entered the fourth quarter with a 66-44 edge. Akron knocked down six three-pointers in the quarter to score 18 of its 27 total points in the stanza.
Akron kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by senior Tahmala Thorpe's (Mississauga, Ontario) three, to grow the lead to 85-62 with 1:56 to go in the contest. The Zips held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 88-65 win. Akron fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 22 points in the period.
