HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Akron women's basketball team dropped a 77-60 decision at Southern Miss on Saturday (Nov. 11) as part of the inaugural Mid-American Conference-Sun Belt Conference Challenge.
The Zips had two players score in double figures, led by sophomore Lanae Riley (Akron, Ohio), who had 13 points and seven rebounds. Junior Alexus Mobley (Indianapolis, Ind.) tacked on 10 points and two steals, while junior Reagan Bass (Strongsville, Ohio) added six points and eight rebounds.
Southern Miss connected on 44 percent of its attempts in the opening half, including hitting eight triples, to lead the Zips at halftime, 43-23.
Following halftime, Akron kept the Eagles from growing their lead before going on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a three from Riley, to trim its deficit to 45-33 with 7:40 to go in the third. Southern Miss countered and stretched its lead to 62-41 heading into the fourth. Akron played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 18 points in the paint.
Southern Miss kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 77-53 advantage before Akron went on a 7-0 run, finished off by junior Zakia Rasheed's (Avon, Ind.) layup, to conclude the scoring on the afternoon.

» The Zips finished the game shooting nearly 44 percent (.439) from the field and at a .429 clip from beyond the arc.
» Akron cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 10 offensive boards in the game.
