AKRON, Ohio - The 12th-rated University of Akron rifle team garnered a 4695-4675 triumph over No. 10 Memphis in the squad's home opener at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range on Saturday (Oct. 28).

The Zips were sparked by a school-record score of 2379 in the air rifle en route to posting the victory.

In the smallbore, junior Alexis Kirk (Clarence Center, N.Y.) was the top gun for Akron finishing second with a 582. Seniors Gavin Perkowski (Bolivar, Ohio) and Erin Schnupp (Gorham, Maine) finished third and fourth, respectively, with like 580's.

The air rifle range belonged to Akron as Kirk led the way with score of 596, one point shy of the school record. Six other Akron team members finished in the 590s to help the Zips bested previous school record of 2377 set last season against Ole Miss.

The Zips return to competition traveling to Kentucky to compete against the fifth-ranked Wildcats on Friday (Nov. 3) before battling No. 3 Ole Miss on Saturday (Nov. 4). Both matches get underway at 9 a.m.
