Gatrall Wins Gold with Team Canada at the Pan American Games

SANTIAGO, Chile – Senior Akron swimmer Madelyn Gatrall is a member of the Team Canada swim team that traveled to compete in the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. Over the course of the past week, Gatrall has had a strong showing in both of her individual events and helped Team Canada qualify for a spot in the Women's 4 x 100m Medley Relay final which won gold.On the evening of October 22, Gatrall entered the A Final with the fifth fastest time from the morning's prelims for the 200m Backstroke. In the final, she improved her time by over a second to finish in fifth place with a time of 2:14.44.
In the 100m Backstroke prelims on the following day, she had the third fastest time at 1:01.79. Swimming in Lane 3 for the Finals in the evening, Gatrall missed the bronze medal by one hundredth of a second behind fellow Canadian teammate Danielle Hanus.
In the morning of October 25, Gatrall swam the first leg of the 4 x 100m Medley Relay finishing her backstroke at 1:02.11. Her efforts helped Team Canada to qualify first into the event finals with a time of 4:05.19 beating the Americans by over a second heading into the finals. Team Canada earned the gold medal with a time of 3:58.76 beating the United States by .63 seconds.
