Camp Directs Akron to Come-From-Behind 77-66 Victory at Miami

OXFORD, Ohio – Led by a career-high 26 points from senior G Dominique Camp (Dayton, Ohio), the University of Akron women's basketball team earned a come-from-behind 77-66 road victory over Miami (5-10, 0-2 MAC) on Saturday, Jan. 7 at Millett Hall.
Trailing by as many as 10 points in the opening quarter, the Zips (11-2, 2-0 MAC) outscored the RedHawks over the final period, 23-16, to extend their winning streak to six games, while improving to 2-0 in Mid-American Conference play.
Camp led four Zips scoring in double figures, while sophomore F Reagan Bass (Strongsville, Ohio), redshirt junior G Layne Ferrell (Franklin, Ohio) and senior F Molly Neitzel (Rocky River, Ohio) added 21-, 15- and 12-point performances towards Akron's triumph on the afternoon.
The Zips finished the contest shooting 44.2 percent from the field, including more than 47 percent (.474) over the final three quarters. Miami concluded its efforts on the day connecting on 39.1 percent of its attempts.
Ivy Wolf led four RedHawks scoring in double figures with a team-high 17 points, to go along with 16, 14 and 13 tallies, respectively, from Maddi Cluse, Sierra Morrow and Peyton Scott.
Miami jumped out to a 24-16 advantage after one period before the Zips shot more than 53 percent in the second quarter en route to outscoring the RedHawks, 20-12, to send the contest into the intermission squared at 36.
Akron jumped out of the gates with a 10-0 run to open the second half, fueled by eight points from Camp, to assume a 46-36 lead at the 7:44 mark. The lead again swelled to 10 points, 52-42, before the Zips entered the fourth quarter maintaining a 54-50 edge.
Miami regained the lead, 55-54, before Akron rallied and took the advantage for good at the 5:25 mark on a layup by Neitzel.
