Akron Diving Strong Showing at 2022 Magnus Cup Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Akron diving team registered a dominating performance at the 2022 Magnus Cup Invitational, claiming all three medals in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events while finishing with gold and silver off the platform at Busbey Natatorium on Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 17-19.
Senior Paige Kalik (Irwin, Pa.) captured a pair of gold medals while qualifying for NCAA Diving Zones in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Kalik posted an all-time personal best off the 1-meter board, finishing with 297.15 points. She followed with a second championship performance in the 3-meter event, earning 278.10 points.
Sophomore Laurel Smith (Knoxville, Tenn.) won gold in the platform diving event and posted a pair of runner-up performances in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Smith recorded a personal best 210.35 points to win off the tower and qualified for NCAA Zones with a career-best effort in the 1-meter with 284.35 points. Smith scored 239.05 points off the 3-meter boards for silver.
Sophomore McKenzie Dunigan (Oviedo, Fla.) turned in career-high performances in all three events, capturing two bronze medals and a runner-up finish. Dunigan finished third behind Kalik and Smith in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, posting career-best scores of 250.65 and 238.75 points, respectively. She followed with a second-place showing off the platform with 206.85 points.
