WEST POINT, N.Y. - The sixth-rated University of Akron rifle team continued its strong start to the campaign registering victories this past weekend versus No. 16 Army and No. 19 North Carolina State.Â
The Zips won a tri-meet between the Black Knights and Wolfpack on Saturday, Oct. 29, registering a combined score of 4678 to edge NC State (4676) and Army (4651), before posting a 4695-4662 triumph past the Wolfpack on Sunday, Oct. 30.
"Even when we are slightly off the mark, the strength and depth of this team is evident," said Akron head coach Newt Engle. "However, when we are on the mark, this team knows no limits. I can clearly tell the team is not satisfied and they definitely wants more."Â
x Gavin Perkowski (Bollivar, Ohio) directed the Zips in the three-team affair against Army registering a team-best combined score of 1177. He was followed closely by sophomore Alexis Kirk (Clarence Center, N.Y.), who fired a two-gun season-high total of 1175.
